Scripture includes a few suggestions on when to avert our eyes (1 John 2:16; Matt. 18:9), but far more frequently, it invites us to behold, to look, to pay attention. Behold often introduces the unexpected and captivating. It asks us (quite literally) to hold on to what we see, to contemplate and be transformed by it. When John tells us to “behold” the Lamb of God, he’s not just telling us, “Look over here for a second.” He’s telling us to look so carefully, with such utterly captivated attention, that we are changed by what we see.

Cohort Experience
In collaboration with Pillar, Hope College, and Western Theological Seminary, we are leading an initiative to nurture “Compelling Preaching.”
This cohort experience focuses on the interiorization of Scripture and the practices of orality.
What to expect:

You will engage in two 5-7 week sessions in the Fall and Spring, focused on the interiorization of Scripture and the practices of orality. This learning experience is designed to deepen your understanding of Scripture and enhance your preaching skills.

Expect to build meaningful relationships with other pastors, ministry leaders, and college students from across the country. This cohort provides a supportive environment where you can share experiences, challenges, and insights, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Your cohort will be provided with a wealth of resources to support your journey, including books, sermons, podcasts, newsletters, and video teachings. These materials are curated to help you dive deeper into Scripture and improve your preaching.

Through the cohort, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your preaching, receive constructive feedback, and implement new techniques. This process will contribute to both your personal spiritual growth and professional development as a preacher and leader.

Your cohort can be composed of your ministry team, pastoral colleagues, or college students in your area. This flexibility allows you to choose participants who will benefit most from the experience and who can contribute to the group's growth.

The culmination of the cohort experience is the collective gathering at the reimagined “Bast Preaching Conference” in Holland, MI. We are calling it the Behold Gathering. This event will provide a unique opportunity for learning, fellowship, and renewal, further enriching your preaching and ministry.
